Simão Martinez (b. 1993, Lisbon) is a visual artist working primarily in painting, drawing, and printmaking. His practice explores themes of memory, place, and the liminal spaces between observation and imagination.
Martinez's work is characterized by a distinctive approach to color and atmosphere, often depicting interior spaces and landscapes that hover between the familiar and the uncanny. His paintings frequently emerge from extended periods of observation, transformed through successive layers of memory and reinterpretation.
After completing his studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon (FBAUL), Martinez has exhibited extensively in Portugal and internationally. His work has been shown at institutions including MAC - Carmo Archaeological Museum, and has been recognized with awards including the Paula Rego Prize and the 12th Amadeo de Souza-Cardos Prize.
